Mt. Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary, and the Oyster Perpetual

 

With Everest set to hit theaters later this week, Jon Krakauer fans and other outdoorsy types will no doubt be cramming into theatres for the best mountaineering film since our beloved Sly Stallone foiled a suprisingly devious John Lithgow in 1993's Cliffhanger. Starting this Friday, crampons will be sharpened, brain cells will be lost, and guys will get their gear ... but in between all of that, I'm also holding out hope that we'll see at least one Rolex on someone's wrist.

Virginia Tech's J.C. Coleman Dons Gold Watch for National TV Audience

We've noticed a growing trend in college football: gametime gold watches.

As a good chunk of America saw during Virginia Tech's 2015 home opener against top-ranked Ohio State, J.C. Coleman was wearing a rather large gold watch on his right wrist. This sparked speculation that the watch was a Rolex, like De'Anthony Thomas wore while warming up for the 2014 Alamo Bowl. To our disappointment, closer inspection revealed that the watch was a gold-colored casio g-shock.
